Cuisine: Italian

As it’s one of our favourite pizza joints, we should clarify that Ventuno is really so much more than that. Positioned right on the wharf, its industrial interior and contemporary decor give it a fresh, modern Italian feel and the same can be said of the food, beer and wine. Aside from quality pizza $19–$27 there is highly devourable antipasti, ranging from eggplant involtini $16 to salami and scamorza cheese-stuffed zucchini flowers $16. Pasta dishes change but there are always interesting combinations. We loved the orecchiette with broccoli, sausage and shaved pecorino $24 and the paccheri con sugo di carne $25 with tubular tortiglioni pasta, a mix of meats and a rich tomato sauce. If you’re not rushing off to the theatre, stick around for dessert. Sunday evening is pizza e birra night, when $25 gets you a pizza and a boutique beer or glass of wine.
