July 2008

Think winter and we think root vegies and this month we're spoilt for choice. There's plenty of good spuds including Dutch Creams, Nicolas, Purple Congos and the perennial Sebagos. And if ever you needed an excuse to boost your carbs, cold weather's as good as any. Do it with handcut chips at the Rozelle Fish Bowl or in miso potatoes at Zozo.

Brightening up dishes all over town are remarkably good red capsicums from Queensland's warmer climes. Mother Chu's Vegetarian Kitchen stir fries them with tofu, shiitake mushrooms and beansprouts while down at Ventuno they show up in the excellent tagliatelle with lamb ragu.
