Does it not seem somewhat, if not foolhardy at least brave, to be opening restaurants in the face of the biggest financial disaster since 1929? When asked how local eateries are going right now, Restaurant & Catering’s CEO Robert Goldman reports, “They’re taking the bus rather than a limousine right now.” It has not been an easy time, what with the coldest winter for some time and that loaves and fishes World Youth Day event. He reports the top end “hasn’t been hurt yet” but predicts that maybe “rather than entrée, main, dessert and a bottle of wine, we may be looking at entrée, main and a glass of wine and looking for value closer to home in our neighbourhood restaurants”. Sounds like a plan.
