Tripe & Ticino good value in hard times

May 2009

That club which is so difficult to get into that anyone can, the Tripe Club of NSW, is holding a meeting at the Palace Chinese Restaurant (upper Level, Wesley Arcade, 133 Castlereagh Street) on Tuesday May 12 at 12.30 for 1pm. On the menu are steamed tripe in blackbean sauce, curried tripe with blackbeans, and salt-and-pepper tripe — and the $60 a head includes a glass of wine with each course (three courses) and two pre-lunch drinks. Damn good value. How do you join? RSVP by Wednesday May 6 to John Bowring on 9489 2239 and turn up.

And, finally, how about dinner at Bei Amici (2b Mona Road, Darling Point, Ph 9328 0305), Sydney’s only Ticinese restaurant (Ticino is the southernmost canton of Switzerland, where they speak — and eat — Italian) for $33? It’s what Chef Felix Rutz is charging for antipasto, pasta and a sweet every Monday night in what he calls his io pensi io — “leave it to me” — menu. Perche no?
