And our thoughts turn to gelato (actually, mine often turn to gelato in the winter, autumn and spring). Down at Gelato Messina (241 Victoria Street Darlinghurst, Ph 8354 1223), gelato genius Nick Messina has been plotting retro flavours: Gingerbread, Old Gregg (butterscotch), Milk Chocolate & Brownie. Please, Nick, can we have ours right now?

And, to finish: “Icecream is exquisite,” said the French philosopher Voltaire. “What a pity it isn’t illegal.”
