Spitting compulsory

January 2011

If you’ve never experienced a tutored whisky tasting, now’s your chance. Johnnie Walker is holding a series of such tastings at bars around Sydney – for the schedule and the venue nearest you go to www.johnniewalker.com.au Each session lasts two hours, and is hosted by a JW ‘Whisky ambassador’ who’ll guide you through the extraordinarily complex flavours and textures of whiskies from Ireland, Canada, America and of course Scotland. You’ll learn the difference between single malts and blends. Sounds like a lot of fun for whisky-lovers – I’ve already done a simplified version with a Johnny Walker blender, whose name I have forgotten, but who gave me a piece of advice I’ve always remembered. “Never drink whisky neat, Laddie” he said, “always add just a drop of water to open up the aromas and flavours.” There you go – free advice.
