Ladylux spends bucks

December 2009

There are big changes for the better at Kings Cross nightclub Ladylux (2 Roslyn Street, Potts Point, Ph 9356 2400), graduate from popular discotheque to sophisticated and sexy cocktail bar with a glittering sunken dancefloor. Operating since 2003, the venue recently relaunched  with a chic new image designed to attract a more exclusive crowd. Sydney designer Thomas Bucich (Wildfire Restaurant, Ocean Room) has revamped the rooms, which now sport custom carpet, a piranha tank and a James Bond-meets-Baroque interior. The pairing of styles takes some getting used to (swirling hand-painted wallflowers clash with kitsch ceiling disco balls and zebra-print cushions), but it all helps to create the intended sultry vibe. The virtues of Sweden’s Absolut Vodka are showcased in a comprehensive cocktail menu with such zingy concoctions as the Solitaire ($15): silken pear, lime sorbet and lemon juice shaken with Absolut pear and a dash of Frangelico on homemade Rosella flower jam. The wine list traipses across the planet with the finest offerings from Europe, South America and Orange, NSW. There’s no mention of a larger dining menu as yet. Stick around on Friday evenings for a nightcap of disco, or house and techno on Saturday nights.
