Give 'em a hand

October 2010

If you live in the inner city, you see them everywhere. Kids and others who have nowhere to live just wander around Central Railway at the end of the day. In  a city like Sydney it’s a disgrace. If we wait for government to do anything —and I mean anything except squabble among themselves — we’d be waiting until the Arctic finishes melting. In the meantime there’s StreetSmart. This is an organisation that gives every dollar it raises direct to  agencies and projects helping the homeless. And on Sunday October 24 at Coast (Roof Terrace, Cockle Bay Wharf, Ph 9267 6700) there’s a very special dinner where seven of the city’s best restaurateurs are getting together to put on a terrific fundraiser, among them Sam Christie (Longrain) Howard Flanagan and Jeremy Strode (Bistrode CBD) as well as Tim Connell (Coast). They’ll be presenting signature dishes from their restaurants matched with wine and the night will be hosted by the delightful Sarah Wilson (whom I had to Google because I’ve never watched MasterChef and I don’t read Cosmopolitan or watch Foxtel, but maybe you do) will be the MC. Cost is $150 a head all up. For reservations call Coast (above) or email
