Books and wine

Two of my favourite things — with a little food thrown in — are at the recently opened wine bar in Berkelouw Books (Level 1/70 Norton Street, Leichhardt, Ph 1300 237 535 689, visit berkelouwwinebar.com). Owners Colin Cappelleri and Gary Mullins will be hand-picking the wines from smaller makers around the country, specialising in the wines of Orange, and also using Sydney and Orange produce for the food on the tasting plates.

I can vouch for the quality of both food and wine on offer because I was lucky enough to attend the award ceremony for the Foodies’ Guide to Sydney 2010 (howzat for a smooth plug) there before it opened. If what they’re serving is half as good as what they served us, it will be worth writing about. Just don’t spill any wine on the rare books.
