One thing Damien Pignolet did tell me at the Victor Churchill shindig was that he and his business partner Ron White have leased the restaurant in the building they developed on the old Baron’s site to ex-Bistro Moncur chefs Scott Mason and Damien Vallejo. The new joint, to be called Blanco (5 Roslyn Street, Kings Cross) is in the remarkable building called, for reasons which will become obvious when you see it, Barcelona. One columnist saw it as homage to Gaudi, which I wouldn’t necessarily agree with, but it is most definitely from the 21st century end of the Catalan Modernista school. The food will follow suit and the space is referred to as a “casual restaurant and bar”. And the good news for old Baron’s hangers is it may be reopening. Watch this space, and go over and see the building — maybe on the trip to VC.
